Hensley Lake

Fishing, boating and windsurfing are popular activities on this 1,500-acre lake. Stately oaks and granite outcroppings dot the adjacent hills, which make up the Hidden View and Buck Ridge recreation areas. Several hiking and equestrian trails crisscross the area along the lakes northern shoreline. There are two boat launches. Hidden View campground, open year-round, provides 52 tent and RV sites with showers and flush toilets (there are no hookups). The visitors center, open weekdays from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., has displays of native plants and animals. The recreation are is in Madera county on County Road 400. From Highway 145, follow County Road 33 north two miles, turn east on County Road 400 and continue eight miles to the entrance.


Kearney Park

This shady, 225-acre park surrounds the Kearney Mansion. The lush grounds have two ballfields, five soccer fields, playground areas, horseshoe pits and nine reservable picnic areas with barbecues. Kearney Park's entrance is located seven miles west of Fresno on W. Kearney Boulevard and Fair Avenue.


Lost Lake Recreation Area

Located along the San Joaquin River below Friant Dam, this 220-acre park offers a picturesque, 40-acre lake and a 70-acre nature-study area that includes hiking trails with bird-watching vantage points. Recreational facilities include a volleyball court, a softball field and a playground. There are also picnic areas with barbecues. A campground offers 42 sites, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lost Lake Recreation Area is in Friant on Friant Road, one mile south of Millerton Road.

Occupying 8,000 acres along the San Joaquin River, this area offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, boating and camping at 138 campsites in several campgrounds (there are no hookups). More than three miles of hiking and equestrian trails skirt the lake. Tours of the Millerton Courthouse, dam and fish hatchery are available for school groups by reservation.
The day-use area is located in Friant at 5290 Millerton Road, Two miles northeast of Friant Road. To reach the campground, turn north from Friant Road onto North Fork Road travel five miles.


Pine Flat Lake

Pine Flat Lake provides 67 miles of shoreline for boating, fishing and swimming. Two full-service marinas offer boat rentals and four boat launches. Power boats are limited to a 50mph speed limit and must travel in a counterclockwise direction around the lake. A half-mile nature trail passes through a forest of pine and oak. Six campgrounds--two equipped with showers--offer more than 200 campsites. Picnic areas with barbecues are located below the dam.
Located five miles east of piedrea, Pine Flat Lake's camping and recreation areas are accessible from Trimmer Springs Road.


Sequoia National Forest

Sequoia National Forest is renowned for its giant sequoias. It spans more than a million acres, offering opportunities for camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking and hiking on more than 500 miles of trails. Skiing and snowmobiling facilities are also available. Highlights include the Kern Canyon-Kern River area, known for its excellent white-water rafting and fishing streams. There are 959 campsites within the forest's boundaries.
Sequoia National Forest is in Fresno and Tulare counties, west of Sequoia National Park along Highway 180 and south of the park along Highway 190.


Sierra National Forest

Located in the mountains between Yosemite and Kings Canyon national parks, 1.3 million-acre Sierra National Forest offers 11 reservoirs, more than 1,100 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and 61 campgrounds with more than 1,300 sites. Bass, Huntington and Shaver lakes are popular for water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, boating, swimming, hiking, horseback riding and camping. Back country hikers and equestrians can explore numerous wilderness areas: Ansel Adams, John Muir, Dinky Lakes, Jennie Lakes, Monarch and Kaiser. Cross-country and downhill skiing is available at Sierra Summit Ski Area. Campgrounds and recreation areas can be found along Highway 41 at Bass Lake, Mammoth Pool Reservoir and Fish Camp, and along Highway 168 at Courtrught, Edison, Huntington, Shaver and Wishon lakes.
The forest is located in Madera and Fresno counties east of Highway 41 and on both sides of Highway 168.


Woodward Park

This 300-acre bird sanctuary and park harbors several bird species along its lake, pond and streams. More than four miles of hiking trails and a 50-acre equestrian area with two miles of trails are available. The park offers a par course, a playground and picnic areas with barbecues. Woodward Park is in Fresno on Audubon Drive west of Friant Road North.

One of California's premiere tourist attractions known around the world for it's majestic beauty. Yosemite is open daily, and is accessible via Highway 41, Highway 120, and Highway 140 which is the recommended route in winter.
